That’s right. The poker guy REALLLLY looked like a cookie – and that’s totally okay. But it’s not okay to remark that someone looks like someone else of the same ethnic background… when they look alike (at least in that picture).

Let me get this straight.
Comparing anyone (or thing) with anyone (or thing) else is okay unless one of them is someone of African descent. Everything else is okay though.

Here’s a test to see if you’re a racist. Imagine if Chris Rock was being compared to a chimpanzee, would you find that offensive? After you’ve figured that out, look at the one about George W. Bush being compared to a chimp. (http://totallylookslike.com/2008/07/15/george-bush/#comments) Did you find that offensive? If you answered yes to one and no to the either, you’re being racist. It doesn’t matter which one of the two you were offended by, either way you are making the rules different based on race ergo being racist. If you said no to both then you’re being reasonable. If you said yes to both you probably don’t like this site much but at least you’re consistent.
Nope. It’s offensive to compare a Black person to a monkey because of the specific history involving Black people being compared to monkeys in a derogatory way in the time of slavery and Jim Crow as a way of conflating their blackness with being less than human.
Whites don’t bear that association so it’s less insulting to compare a buffoon-like white person to a simian. It’s a comment on how silly they are, but not a direct reference to a time of intense bigotry, inequality, and oppression of their race.
Thing is, Chris Rock doesn’t look all that much like a chimp. Bush is a DEAD RINGER for one. Show me a black guy that really looks like a chimp, and I’ll lol just like I did for Bush.
But if you compared the white guy to a *cracker*….
Actually, just the other day we compared a white guy to a cookie, not much difference. In fact, if the white guy and the cracker bore similarities, other than the color white, then I would find it quite funny. If not, I would just find it stupid. I would never be offended by it. Being offended by something like that is just plain dumb.
And being offended by the Chris Rock comparison is just plain dumb. Did we compare Chris Rock to O.J. Simpson? No. What about Fred Sampson? No. Or even Eddie Murphy? No. Why? Because they NO NOT LOOK ALIKE!
As a former UW-Madison student and current Badger athletics fan, I can vouch for the fact we’ve been making this comparison since Kam made his debut on the court.
Some people need to stop looking for things to be offended by.

Well, considering that I had never heard of Kammron Taylor, I would have to say that Chris is the most famous.
As another UW alum who attended school all four years Kam played, I can also vouch that this comparison has been made since he first started playing. It was ESPN his senior year.

Remember about 10 years ago, Chris Rock did the voice of Lil’ Penny….in commercials for … I believe it was Sprite. Those commercials signalled the downfall of Penny as a basketball player, and the rise of the comedy of Chris Rock.
