Yes, well, the Death Star doesn’t have an 8-day week, with Sunday 1 (for getting over Saturday night partying) and Sunday 2. Go Mimas!

  2. Roxtar says:

so is Saturn Alderaan or Yavin

    • ethana2 says:

It’s more like Yavin– the thing is though that the death star didn’t orbit yavin, it orbited one of its moons– so the drop-in comparison doesn’t work as perfectly as it could.. See, Mimas and Endor are moons, and…

Well, the Death Star is no moon– it’s a.. series of tubes..

      • Mitaka says:

        [geekmode]
Actually, it DID orbit the planet to get to the moon.

“Orbiting the planet at maximum velocity. The moon with the rebel base will be in range in 30 minutes.”
        [/geekmode]
        :-D

      • Lolz says:

Actually, Endor isn’t a moon: the planet Endor is a gas giant. You, sir, are thinking of the forest moon of Endor.

  3. Rina says:

    That’s no space station… it’s a moon.

  4. Pants says:

I guess that’s what a Death Star looks like after a long long time

  5. sbd says:

I just keep thinking about the poor folks who have to live right next to the “death” emitter. The noise and light! Ear plugs and a sleeping mask they’d need, I tell you. And they still probably don’t get a truly restful night of sleep because of the vibration and the lethal radiation leakage…

  6. bob dobbs says:

    No. That’s his undisclosed location.

I think Mimas is what the death star looked like when it was a teenage space station with lots of acne.

    Oxy 10 FTW.

  19. svenk91 says:

crap, forgot what i wanted to say…

An observation first made in Von Karman Auditorium at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory as the picture came in as a live transmission from Voyager 2 in 1981, twenty-seven years ago.

  35. ohdear says:

Everyone, head out to Pluto and use a giant engine to fling the worthless planet onto the moon, then we all die and laugh at the exploding Death star, or we just wait ’till its above our skies, or we could take a rocket there and fire machineguns at the craters and the laser, or we could just wait for the Aliens from Megas XLR or from Star Trek come to the rescue and blow the Giant apple to bits before it blows saturn and the rings blow up Jupiter which makes a nuclear reaction and pushes asteroids to mars which crashes on the moon which blows earth and the rest of humans blow venus with rockets then hit mercury with boxing gloves and blow the sun with more than 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,001 asteroids. (the 001 is Mimas…

The Death Star totally looks like Mimas…

Pretty sure Mimas was around first.

  38. Bhbhbhhh says:

Actually the Saturnians saw Lucas’ film and decided to build a battlestation to destroy humanity. Pretty crude one too…

  39. Goniatites says:

    LOL
and i thought my professor in geology had balls to use a picture of the deathstar in his lecture about the origin of the planets….apparently he just used a pic of mimas.

  40. Alec east says:

    I can’t believe no-one has said “That’s no moon…”

  41. tsteofilo says:

Well, the thing is – since it happened long, long ago in a galaxy far away it could very well BE a petrified Death Star. We’ll never know.

    • BobaTheFett says:

Well, it DOES look like a small moon from a distance. We’ll find out if the world ends by some huge green beam of plasma aimed at my head.

  42. Anonymous says:

Mimas and the Death Star right next to each other kind of look like boobs, don’t they?

We’re all going to die the way alderon did.

  44. catz42 says:

george lucas’s insparaition for the death star was that moon!

as i would say “thats no space staiition! thats a moon!

  45. MimasScientist says:

Hello people. The photo on the rleft is NOT photoshopped. That is an actualy, up close photo of one of the moons a Saturn called Mimas. On average, Mimas is -328F or -200C. It actually has water, but it is (obviously) frozen. Discovered in 1789, it is the only moon that closely resembles the death star and that has a living creature on it. The animal is called Samim and was built to live extreme temperatures as low as -500F to -100F. It’s sharp claws are long enough to dig into the ground to find rocks to build nests that keep it warm. It has 37 layers of skin ( freaky, right?!) and heavy, wool like fur. The feet on Samim’s have long claws ( like fish hooks) that are able to dig into hard surfaces so it’s easy for it to get around the battered surface of Mimas. The reason we know about these amazing creatures is because, one day, a scientist took the closest picture ever taken of Mimas. He decided to get a closer look and discovered a small furry creature, he described the animal the size of a small dog when it begs on it’s hind legs. The Samim was discovered December 29th and hasn’t much been discussed.

  46. Cat says:

technically there was no “abandoned wreckage” it was blasted to smithereens, leaving nothing but endlessly floating debris in space.

  47. smartepantz120 says:

    Wikipedia sez:

When seen from certain angles, Mimas closely resembles the Death Star in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, which is also said to be several hundred kilometers in diameter. This is purely coincidental, as the first film was made three years before the first close-up photographs of Mimas were taken.[13]

so it IS wierd that they look alike…3 years after the movie was made, a moon is discovered that looks EXACTLY and is AROUND THE SAME SIZE as the Death Star…kinda strange dont’ya think?
