Addiction and alcoholism are diseases, and they often stem from depression or other forms of mental illness. Do you also blame epileptics for repeatedly throwing themselves on the ground?

As a survivor of mental illness (although that is somewhat high falutin, since every day is a battle) the biggest weapon in the arsenal is a robust, not to say sick, not to say black, sense of humour.
When I was in The Priory, there was a self mutilator who managed to be funnier than most stand-ups about only being allowed plastic cutlery (she made excellent cherry scones too). But of course, this sort of thing should be shameful and kept chained in the attic and fed fish heads.
When the world is insane, a finding it funny is the best you can manage. Welcome to my world.
In the end, you can embrace or rage against the dark. Ms Winehouse is all but married to it. You can only help people who want to be helped.

The difference between an epileptic, and a drug addict is an epileptic did not have the choice to start their issue. No one held a gun to any ones head and made them ingest drugs and alcohol to start their addiction. That is like blaming the stove for burning your hand after you were told it was hot.
I agree. When I read that part about “epileptics repeatedly throwing themselves on the ground,” I was thinking, U better hope ur not offending anyone. It is not like people with epilepsy can help the fact that their neurons aren’t communicating properly with one another. However, u can control whether or not u pick up a drink or a crack pipe. Addiction is NOT a disease. Crohn’s Disease is a disease. Addiction is a choice. When I drank heavily I CHOSE to do so out of depression. Then one day I CHOSE to stop drinking until I was black out drunk. I rarely ever drink now. I do on occasion, but I CHOSE not to get wasted. Addiction is a behavior not a disease. There are NO psychologists who would agree with that mumbo jumbo. By calling addiction a disease, you are taking away one’s responsibility for one’s actions. It’s a cowards way out. The brave thing to do is face it head on, and you don’t do that by blaming it on something else. Amy CHOSE to be this way.
