  5. Svai says:

haha… thats the reason why there are all these crazy gameshows in japan! XD

  6. Tattoo freak says:

This is SOOOO true! I have Jap Maple Leaves tattooed on my foot and even though they are not even green (they are yellow and orange for fall) EVERYONE thinks they are pot leaves!!!

  7. Korin says:

Wow…. uncanny! One of my friends took a pic of a leaf on a park bench and was all like “there was a pot leaf!”
No… No there wasn’t. Botany fail lol

  8. Tom Trifik says:

Aside from structure, color, number of leaves, and “medicinal” properties…

Anon, the poster, probably sees everything else so very, very poorly…

    .

Anon: Here kitty kitty, I have a treat for you!

    “Kitty”: CHOMP! NOM NOM NOM!

Anon: ARRRGH! It bit my arm OFF!

EMS Medic: Alligators tend to do that!

    • jen says:

seriously…they don’t look that much alike. Clearly the submitter has not enough experience with the second of the two. First one -obviously maple leaf. Did no one do leaf projects in elementary school?

Whatever – you can smoke it if you want to, I guess.

    • drivernjax says:

      ROFLMAO.

    • Gigi says:

This isnt a scientific website where everything needs to be perfect to look alike. Thats the point of “looks like”. They look similar. No one said they look exactly alike with no difference. You must see everything so very very critically.

Grandma: Here you go Tom, I made you some muffins.

Tom: Well, muffins aren’t frosted so this is actually a cupcake.

      ….Tool.

There was this church in Sweden that used one of those Japanese Maple leaves on their newsletter recently, and somehow it became this big news story about “CHURCH ENTICES WITH CANNABIS”.

An article about it in one of the biggest swedish newspapers:
    http://www.dn.se/DNet/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=147&a=834701

Swedish mentality toward drugs + tabloid journalism = EPIC FAIL

  10. Emily says:

haha I did an art project last year where I had to bring in fall leaves for a painting and my art teacher yelled at me because she thought my maple leaf was pot

    • Kelzy says:

My grandmother used to press leaves in books and save them. One year she gave my dad a book called “A Reverence For Wood” (not even gonna comment on that). Anyway, my brother, who was about 10 at the time, maybe a little older, just finished with D.A.R.E., opens the book and a Maple leaf fell out. He started freaking out and asking if grandmom was high…
Classic, and we still make fun of him to this day.

  11. Guess Again says:

haha! I’ve been saying that for years! haha…
still…that’s not the best specimen of Japanese maple leaf…I’ve definitely seen better examples.

  12. Blackup says:

About time someone did this! I just forgot the name of the other plant (Japanese maple)

I always see a fake Japanese maple in Hobby Lobby and I’m always like “LOL POT”

    • trayphon says:

Ha, I bought that 6ft Japanese maple tree there and man it looks great in my living room. People freak out over it all the time. I love posing for pictures in front of it. Great conversation piece. I just make sure to keep them out of the basement. :-)

  13. chris says:

i own one, but its red

  14. billybobfrankgeorgemildredIII says:

  15. luck.e.punk says:

  16. motas says:

Cleome looks even more like pot. Found out the hard way when a nosey old neighbor called the cops on us. Poor coppers had a hard time not laughing in his face!

  17. rhrampage says:

In Japan, in the Osaka area(s) they deep fry the maple leaves.
    Quite nice akshuly.
    Which is a bit disturbing.

    • drivernjax says:

You might be surprised at some of the plants they eat in Japan. I believe I have experience chrysantemum leaves with a meal. Not bad, actually. Sort of bitter like most other greens such as mustard, collards and turnip.

  18. Jake Virus says:

    It’s called Hemp

  19. RushnGreen says:

Maple leaf & pot: two great Canadian icons.

  20. sandy says:

Um… actually? They look really different.

    Someone isn’t paying attention.

  21. Hailey S. says:

That reminds of something, my aunt’s house used to belong to drug dealers and there’s a pot leaf tiled on the bottom of the pool, and growing up they told us it was a oak leaf!

  22. waffleavenger says:

I know someone who tried to bring a Japanese maple leaf back from Japan, and the airport security confiscated it. Apparently they didn’t have science class either.

  23. Zito says:

When times are bad, there’s always maple trees to smoke… Acutally I wonder if anyone has ever smoked the “japanese-home-grown-goooood-stuff”…

  24. denile says:

Yes it does, and so does a young Okra leaf!! I think they are all in the Cannibis family

  25. Viddaric says:

  26. simpl -e says:

i love noticing this similarity *sigh of relief*

  27. Chaz says:

Only a Stoner would think that they are in any way “Alike”. You must have an I.Q. Lower than George W. Bush, the Dumbest President Ever. (Reference: Harvard I.Q. Evaluation of the last 21 Sitting Presidents) Anyone with a Clear Head and Half a Brain can tell the difference immediately. POT makes You even more Stupid than You already are. Quit now before You Drool Your Life away.

    • mary Ivanoski says:

Why did you capitalize so many unnecessary words while trying to sound articulate?

    • uh huh says:

i agree with mary ivonoski on this one… just say what you need to say and leave it at that the only thing more stupid than sounding stupid is trying to sound smart…. and no one is saying they look identical they’re saying is looks similar! you’re an idiot… i learned the difference in grade school… F***in moron

  28. sowhat says:

    lawls at serious comment

  29. crispy says:

can i still get hi from mapple leafs though???.lol sseriously ..

  30. Angedodo says:

Thank you! I was trying to figure out what kind of plant i had growing in my yard… It not only looks like a marijuana leaf but it grows the same too, the leaves are indirect each other just like the cannibus, however cannibus are rigid out-lined and the lines across the leaves are very dominant compared to the japanese maple.

  31. Juggla says:

if u smoked pot or grew it u would now they look completely different trust me i grow hydroponic in my basement

  32. Alowe says:

Yep your correct. Made a hemp necklace with a Japanese maple leaf pendent and everyone thinks im a pot head now! Thanks mom for my pendent!

  33. Crucial.Taunt says:

I was volunteering at the Garden Festival this weekend, saw a green dwarf japanese maple tree and I thought “Damn, they’re brave sellin pot plants out in the open like this!” Looked at the tag… Facepalmed.

  34. Chrissiann says:

I love the internet! Thank you for posting this site! My fiance and I were on a wonderful walk tonight and came across this tree with pot-looking leaves! I looked on internet to find what on earth is this plant (we figured it must be some form of maple) and sure enough, it is Japanese maple! Thank you so much for posting this and letting us know! :) I wonder if I could smoke it? Hmmmm.

  35. dakota says:

Yeah it looks similar, but the pot leaf has an extra leaf on the bottoms.

  36. Tiffany says:

Pot leaves actually only have 7 leaves, not 9 like this picture portrays, so they do look very much alike.
