It wasn’t a matter of knowing what a philosopher or sorcerer is. It’s a matter of knowing what the Philosopher’s Stone is. The Philosopher’s Stone is an old legend about Nicolas Flamel (that’s right, it’s old; he was real; Rowling didn’t make him up). He’s reputed to have made the legendary and heavily-sought-after-by-alchemists Philosopher’s Stone which would turn lead into gold and let you live forever.

Apparently, the publishers in America thought that the people in USA wouldn’t understand the reference to this old tale, and changed it to ‘sorcerer’ so people won’t be like, “HEY YOU’RE STUPID, THERE’S NOTHING PHILOSOPHICAL ABOUT THE STONE, IT’S A MAGIC STONE.”

Try this look-alike on for size: The Phantom of the Opera starring Lon Chaney, Sr. (circa 1930′s). That would be a very scary face for Christopher Walken to wear incognito. His facial bone structure could support such a hideous “mask” even though he is quite a handsome man. When he was in his late twenties and thirties he had a “pretty-boy” face–beautiful heterochromia eyes and voluptuous lips! Check-out his earlier movies such as ANDERSON TAPES, MIND SNATCHERS, ROSELAND, NEXT STOP GREENWICH VILLAGE, WHO AM I THIS TIME, DOGS OF WAR as a start and see that he wasn’t ALWAYS creepy-looking! Not only is he a song-and-dance guy (his strip-tease in PENNIES FROM HEAVEN doing a tap-dance, no less, is a MUST-SEE!!!), he is also great in comedies (SNL, BLAST FROM THE PAST, UNDERTAKING BETTY, MOUSEHUNT, ILLUMINATA, SCOTLAND-PA, and so on…).
