      My thoughts exactly

    • Dan M says:

The “American Meat Council” struck me as odd, because Beef producers and Pork, for instance, producers are rivals, not allies. Sure enough, the poster is not from the American Meat Council, but from a local grocery supplier in Oklahoma City, called “Fleming Foods.”

      • Jake Eagle says:

well, come on, there was a rationing problem during WW2 in america. people were saving as much as they could of food so they could support the war effort. people even started growing “victory gardens” they were simply patches of grass where people would grow their own food so they wouldn’t have to buy it, thus help the war effort.

MEANWHILE, in germany, kids are burning books and Harrison ford is disguised as a german officer and is getting Hitler’s autograph by accident.

  1. ms morbo says:

…wow. thats definately a tracing job, i think the meat council need a new illustrator.

  2. bobbintb says:

    that is eerie….

  3. bobbintb says:

look at it. the face is the same, even the folds in the shirt are identical…

  4. cTo says:

yeah that is absolutely the same image.

  5. Angie says:

They went too far in copying that imo. That is scary.

  6. Stephanie B says:

    Wow, that’s really scary

  7. slaggingham says:

I guess the message is the Nazis suck, so it’s okay to steal from them?

    That’s pretty f-ed up.

  8. Captain Weiner says:

    i’m glad i’m vegetarian! and a jew!

    • TDEN>Twilight says:

im a vegetarian too… i refuse to heil the meat.

      • Dan M says:

That’s funny, because Hitler was a vegetarian, too! Isn’t that funny? Hitler was a big-government, tree-hugging, gun-grabbing, pro-abortion, vegetarian socialist.

        • Unmentionables says:

Hitler was a fascist, not a socialist. Key differences involved there.

He was also devoutly Christian. Now isn’t that funny?

This post has been brought to you by Godwin’s Law.

          • Jason says:

Facism is a common element of socialism. He did run the National Socialist Party after all.

            • Gandalfs Beard says:

Mussolini, Hitler’s Buddy, described Fascism as the confluence of the Corporation and the State, i.e. State Supported Capitalism. Fascists hate Socialism (State Supported “Workerism”). That’s why the Nazis busted unions and murdered REAL Socialists.

You are confusing political ideologies (who the government should support and be run by–the Wealthy vs Everyone Else) with tactics (Democracy vs Authoritarianism).

            • Randomguy says:

              Political knowledge fail.

The National Socialist Party were Fascist.

              Name != ideology.

Australia’s Liberal Party, for example, is the country’s main conservative party.

              • rjp3 says:

You can be Socialist without being Fascist.

America has been a Democratic Socialist state since the 1940s.
It is not forced on us — the people elect leaders based on what programs they want to try and which to keep…. Like Health Care Reform. We voted it in. Others could someday vote it out. That is Democracy voting for Socialist Programs. Not Fascist.

            • rjp3 says:

Wrong — socialism is often sold by Fascists.
But most modern FREE state with DEMOCRACY vote in Social Programs paid for by Socialism – pooling resources for the common good…. and do not turn Fascist.

          • phil ma hed says:

Hitler was NOT a “devout Christian”. Don’t spread bullsh*t.

            • rjp3 says:

I think you are missing the point.
The point is that he presented himself as a devout Christian – he in fact mad the Catholic Version of Christianity the OFFICIAL religion of Nazi Germany. This Christian religion did not protest.

He followers were following a Christian Leader.

Do you get he made himself appear as a devout Christian ?
And that is how he got people to follow him to do bad things.
              THE lesson of WW2.

          • dude says:

I thought hitler was jewish… since is parents were jewish.

            • lm says:

Hitler was not jewish, that’s just a rumor that will not die. I took a class with a woman who spent her entire life basically, just researching nazis and hitler. He was definitely not jewish.

        • Canaduck says:

Hitler wasn’t a vegetarian, you dope. He pretended to be–just like he pretended not to smoke–because he thought it made him look more pure in the eyes of the people, but in reality, he loved meat. To quote his personal chef, “I do not mean to spoil your appetite for stuffed squab, but you might be interested to know that it was a great favorite with Mr. Hitler…”

Even if Hitler WAS a vegetarian, what would that prove? You know who wasn’t? Stalin, Lenin, Pol Pot, Mussolini, etc. OH NOES dat meenz all-meat eatres r EVOL!!!11 durr

        • Jon says:

No he was not a vegetarian. Later in life he had to lay off of meat occasionally for digestive problems, but to call that vegetarian is like calling us vegetarian because we don’t eat meat for the third of the day that we sleep.

        • Kayla says:

Aaaaactually… Hitler wasn’t vegetarian. =] Just a common belief. You should probably check your facts before spouting off nonsense.

          • joel says:

Sorry, to many source close to Hitler indicate that, he indeed, was a vegeterian.

This has been confirmed by Albert Speer, Traudl Junge and Adolf Hitler himself.

          • Titanium Dragon says:

Hitler did eat meat occasionally, but cut it almost entirely out of his diet. He only very rarely ate meat. This is a historical fact. While some vegetarians object to calling him such (especially because they often think (obviously incorrectly) that because Hitler did something, that is bad), the reality is that he was only a few sausages away from one.

        • Ben says:

It is a common myth that hitler was a vegitarian, he wasn’t. His chef dispelled this myth telling the press he regularly ate a variety of different types of birds. Also if you are going to lump all socialists (of which Hitler was not one) together, then by that very statement all capitalists must be murderous, war hungry crazies like G.W.

    • XaiaX says:

      Just like Hitler!

    • HellHathNoFury says:

i’m a big jew, but not a vegetarian. Tried that, almost ate my own arm.

    • Debbie says:

Better to be a vegan! Like me!

      • rommel says:

better to shoot myself in the face

      • DP says:

Well then why not go all the way and become Fructarian right away? Plants are living beings as well, aren’t they?

        • Candystripe Legs says:

Yes but they are not sentient, have no brains or nerve endings, and are not at all comparable to animals. And before you even start with the whole “Secret Lives Of Plants” thing:

          http://skepdic.com/plants.html

          • Titanium Dragon says:

It is what is known as “an entirely arbitrary demarcation”. While true that plants do not have central nervous systems, or even nerves, it is untrue that they are unable to register pain; they can indeed “feel” it in a sense, or at a very minimum sense it.

Vegans are very holier than thou about such things because they don’t really understand biology. There’s no reason that killing a shrimp is inherently worse than chopping down a tree. Its simply that they don’t want to acknowledge the fact that, in fact, all living things can sense when their environment is bad for them. While they do not perceive the world in the same way humans do, even very simple organisms can sense that their environment is bad for them.

Vegans are bad people because they are in denial about what they’re doing. I understand what I’m doing by eating meat, but they don’t understand what they’re doing by cutting down trees, eating vegetables, or taking medications.

            • Diamond Dragon says:

You are dumb, ignorant and lowbrow. Indeed they know that plants can feel pain. But like you said plants can feel only a minimum of pain while animals are very much like us. So vegans choose the lesser evil.

              • joe bob says:

So vegans can justify eating plants cause they feel “less pain” and thats less less evil? So your saying vegans still do evil things but not to the extent of their meat eating counterparts?

  9. Suck_It_Redneck_F*cks says:

Scary, but not surprising. Let’s see… your average beef pundit tends to be a swaggering GOP Texan type, often known for their hateful intolerance of anyone not Just Like Them. Sort of like the Nazi Party, yes?

The fact that the illustrator for the Meat Council is completely lacking in originality and stole from someone else is just icing.

    • BBB says:

I was waiting for some bleeding heart moron to come along and make this observation.

      • Gibbles says:

And I was waiting for some inbred low-forehead hate-mongering douche to make exactly that reply.

      • Suck_It_Redneck_F*cks says:

        Hey BBB,

Great name. Your finger get stuck on that key after the booger on it hardened? LOL

For the record, O knuckle-dragging waste of DNA, I am a registered nonpartisan. I believe strongly in issues on both sides. If you’ve got a problem with that, come explain your issues to me and my .45… we’ll see whose heart “bleeds” more then, mmkay? *kisses*

        • TJ says:

“Great name. Your finger get stuck on that key after the booger on it hardened? LOL”

          Wow, that was weak.

        • BBB says:

You’re obviously an intelligent individual. That’s why you’re able to be objective and support issues on both sides. That must also be why you resort to threats of violence when someone calls you “moron”.

I’ll be by to “explain my issues” this afternoon. See you then.

          • SkyTurnip says:

            *rises from lurking*

good idea. they’re probably waiting all day on a comment log to talk with little old you. get a life, retard!!!

            ‘ta…

            *back to lurking*

            • CatFace says:

The Nazi’s bring out the worst in people. What next, round up all the online jews by email and sent them to the great recycle/trash bin on the WWW??? Calm down, children.

        • Shnarf says:

“Great name. Your finger get stuck on that key after the booger on it hardened? LOL”

He’s obviously with the Better Business Bureau you moron…

        • phil ma hed says:

Oooh, an internet bully making empty threats. UNIQUE.

    • Koki Kariya says:

And clearly they had a copy of a Nazi Propoganda poster around in the first place.

      • Whoops says:

Well, it’s not so hard to find something like this, is it? The timothyhodge must have found it somewhere too.

        • man1985 says:

Alas there is the real question. Who is this timothyhodge and why has he had so much time to study both pictures long enough to notice a resemblance? Ohhhhhh. Spooooky.

    • PaulaH says:

How do you look at that crap and decide someone from Texas made that poster? Even if the “Meat Council” is from Texas, you know they don’t sit around creating their own posters. Some dang advertising agency from NYC of L.A. probably did that. Plus, you can’t lump everyone from Texas into one category like that.

      • Praise God and Pass the Ammunition! Yee-Haw! says:

Did they *say* the Meat Council poster was traced- I mean, made- in Texas? No, they said “GOP Texan *type*”. You are right, it’s not okay to make generalizations like that. But understand that Texas has a bit of a reputation. Proudly a red state (ran all the Democrat representatives out of its borders), keeps threatening secession from the rest of the U.S., etc. etc.

In any event, generalizations happen… sort of like saying everyone who doesn’t hate on Obama is a gol-durn SOCIALIST! Thank ghod nobody’s been doing *that* for the last 90-odd days or so…
        /sarcasm

    • YOU ARE AN IDIOT says:

ACTUALLY, you f%$#ing MORON, NAZIs were SOCIALISTS, just like BARAK OBAMA, the Russians under Stalin and still today are SOCIALISTS, just like BARAK OBAMA the list is endless. Communism has killed wayyyy more people than Hitler ever did and you, like ALL liberal pukes don’t have a God damn clue what you’re talking about.
If you’d like an example of “intolerance”, why don’t you go listen to that left wing douche bag Janeane Garofalo, or how about Obama’s good buddy Bill Ayers?

      • Koki Kariya says:

        Heh

      • Seddah says:

lol I love how you’re preaching about intolerance while clearly being unable to tolerate Obama.

        Obama rocks! Hell yeah!

      • Svantei says:

wow, I am happy the universe didnt collapse on this one, because that comment was so contradictory in itself it should have formed a giant black hole.

      • Sven3 says:

lol&rofl, great. I’m from Germany, and for us it’s allways fun to hear some americans call Obama a “socialist”. In Germany, he would be pretty well on the right wing…

And, btw, you are right about communism killing more people than Hitler, but you are wrong when you call him a “socialist”, too. He was a “national socialist”, which is, actually, a form of FASHISM.

      • MedicDope says:

Oh yeah, money to the poor, its just like rounding up jews and killing em!

      • "YOU ARE AN IDIOT" is an idiot says:

You’re the moron. Nazi’s weren’t socialist. Fascism is different. One clear ruler, so everyone isn’t equal. And you’re the intolerant one.

      • Bobo says:

Ummm…you’re actually very wrong. The NAZI party, though the translation was “National Socialist” were far from socialist or communist. They were EXTREME capitalists as the entire fascist mentailty is based on the idea that everyone is NOT equal, completely the opposite of the socialist/communist mentality. Also, one of the largest reasons the Nazis were able to take power was a reaction to the fear of communism.

        • Sven3 says:

fashist with fear of communism… good there is no such thing in USA!

        • Heinz says:

Bobo, please read and understand history.

The national socialist policies were in fact traditionally socialist. They believed in and enforced a strong state with environmental and animal protection laws. They outlawed weapons and believed in workers’ rights.
Your claim that they were “EXTREME capitalists” have no historic accuracy.

        • I am you says:

Actually its people like you make it impossible to learn. For every step forward that good intention makes, ignorance and intolerance take 5 steps backward, and history repeats itself. Why do you think the U.S. government get on their high horse everytime a new or different idea shows itself?

      • Burger says:

Well… You people are a great example, why the world hates USA.
        Gz!

        • Gandalfs Beard says:

That’s funny Burger, I thought the world hates the USA because of all the countries we’ve invaded, occupied, terrorized, installed Dictators and murderous regimes in, and economically destabilized in the USAs brief Imperialist history. Not to mention actually CREATING Al Quaeda as the CIAs personal Islamic Terror hit squad to go after the Soviets during THEIR failed occupation of Afghanistan.

You must have me confused with Kissinger/Nixon/Cheney/Reagan/Bush1&2/Rumsfeld etc. etc.

          • zeli says:

Well GB, that’s just the entree. We (the rest of the world) have a whole banquet of reasons to hate the USA.. don’t get us started or we’ll gorge all evening.

Let’s see… all of what you said plus a total ignorance that the rest of the world exists, let alone being able to find it on a map… um… on second thought, I’ll just retreat back to my quiet corner of the world now and smirk.
            :)

            • Gandalfs Beard says:

Well Zeli, you won’t get much argument from me. I’m a Brit (transplanted as a seedling) and I actually read and understand History unlike the jerk I originally responded to. And oh, I really dislike Fascists in any country.

          • joe bob says:

you forgot impregnating their women too :)

      • Laughing man says:

Just bcause they called themselves socialistsdoesn’t mean, they were.
You sir are the idiot, you claim others to be.
Hating, intolerant and dumb as a door knob.
Please go and do something about the spreading of your genes … a shooting spree, starting in your own family sounds good … yes it does.

      • Jerseygirl says:

So, you will be refusing your Social Security payments because that is a socialist program…. right? I mean, you better put your “money” where your mouth is!

        HAHAHAHAHA!!!

        • OPIE says:

In a few years there won’t be any social security! I suggest we all retire now, and when the Govt. goes bankrupt we can all go back to work… :)

      • JeffK627 says:

Gandalf’s Beard – sorry, but you’re wrong. The “America’s Meat Roundup” poster was part of a 1988 ad campaign by the American Meat Council. The campaign was abandoned when it was discovered that the Nazi poster had been used as the template for the meat poster.

        • Gandalfs Beard says:

Perhaps JeffK627, but I don’t think so. The American meat industry is represented by The American Meat INSTITUTE, The American Meat Packers Association was it’s original name.

There is also the American Meat Science Association, The CANADIAN Meat Council, The North American Meat Processers Association……. and numerous smaller USA meat industry associations representing Lamb, Pork, Beef etc.–note NONE of them are called the American Meat Council. But the Associations I mentioned all have their own websites.

If you google American Meat Council you will find only this Lookalike Page. All the other hits lead to the REAL associations I described above.

        • Gandalfs Beard says:

Okay, after searching I finally found one reference to the case at Justia.com to FLEMING Companies vs an unnamed litigant dated Dec 7 1988.

Apparently the litigant was Jewish and found the poster offensive (as well he should). Apparently the lawsuit was dismissed, appealed, and the appeal was denied on the above date. It was unclear based on the notes when the actual ad campaign was run–but it is clear that The American Meat Council part of the poster is a fraud concocted by the advertiser commissioned by Fleming Companies.

      • cTo says:

No the nazis really hated the communists. In fact, they used fear mongering against communists in order to gain power initially in the population.

        (iiiiiiroonyyyy……)

      • Operator says:

Study some history, and please try breathing through your nose for a change… During their ascent to power, the Nazi party rounded up and imprisoned or killed off the genuinely Socialist members of the party during a week long period known as the “Night of the Long Knives” wherein the members of the left-leaning SA faction of the party fell victim to the SS. After this it was all chest-beating right-wing nationalism and calls for a return to “Traditional German Values” like blaming their losses in WWI on the “Leftists, Jews, Communists and Intellectuals” instead of the over-aggressive regime in Berlin that dragged everyone into the mess in the first place…wait…that all sounds kind of familiar

      • Waffles says:

While I agree with most of your comment Russia is not socialist at all and has not been for quite a while.

      • swallis says:

Actually Nazi’s were facists, not socialists, they just used the socialist name in their party slogan/name to attract some members. Nazi’s threw millions of people into deathcamps and the first ones besides the Jews were socialists and communists. And to say that Obama is ANYTHING like the Nazi’s is simply not true, the Nazi party would have thrown him in as well because one he’s not white, and they were the most extreme racist regime, 2nd he’s a democratic leader, what I mean by this is he supports democracy and they CERTAINLY do not, they did everything in their power to destroy it.
So please do some research before you rant.
        Thank you

      • Zambo says:

Ya, but Janeane Garofalo is freaking hot.

      • Are you awake? says:

Wow. Intolerant much? Wait, hang on, the phone is ringing… Oh, are you Kettle? Because there’s someone called Pot on the phone, says something about you being black?

      • Titanium Dragon says:

Actually, they were fascists, not socialists. People who think Nazis are socialists are invariably more like fascists than socialists.

They called themselves socialists, just like the Australian Liberal Party is actually the conservative party. They were not, in any way, socialists, just like Australian Liberals are not liberals (at least, not in the American sense – one could argue absolutely as well).

Fascists are people like the Republican party – basically, you have the government and business in close cahoots. Fascism simply formalizes it. They also heavily exploit religion for their own political purposes, and engender hatred towards “outsiders” (Republicans hate gays, minorities, and immigrants; Nazis hate gays, minorities, and immigrants – little difference there, Nazis just cast the net a bit wider on who to hate) to deflect hatred from themselves. Socialists, like the socialist party of the United States, are much, much less closely related to Nazis than Republicans are, ideologically speaking.

    • WebNinja says:

I think that is just a ridiculous generalization all around. You can’t put “beef pundits,” Texans or “Red Neck F*cks” in your little box, so you would probably be happier if you stopped trying. Your explanation makes no sense. It’s probably just a sick joke at best.

    • Wrong says:

Think hard… the meat council guys aren’t the actual illustrator.

    • Dan M says:

Hitler was like the GOP? As I just told someone else on this thread (oops!), Hitler was a tree-hugging, gun-grabbing, vegetarian, big-government, pro-abortion, anti-semitic socialist, who was brought into power by trade unions, attacked Christianity as a distortion of the true Jesus who he said was really just a social reformer, and established the Baath party in Syria and Iraq.

Sorry, the only thing he had in common with the GOP was that he hated the Soviet Union. Other than that, he’d've fit in perfectly with all the leftist university professors across America.

      • Gandalfs Beard says:

Wow…it”s amazing. I don’t see how you could possibly be any more OPPOSITE to historical fact. 180 degrees opposite.

Really…You should try cracking a history book instead of getting your “history” from Hannity, Beck, O’Reilly etc.

  10. j_beam says:

And is it just me or does the guy look a lot like Matt Damon?

  11. crimson says:

I wonder if the illustrator is not meat council friendly and intentionally chose to create an ad that likened the meat council to the nazis?

  12. chris says:

I would like to know the context of the pic on the left. I am assuming beef, but maybe this is a dark commentary on rounding up humans again. :(

  13. фдуч_шяь says:

See! The hat, the pants and the flag make all the difference! I think…

  14. It almost looks as if the Nazi youth douchebag managed to flee to the US after the war, and got a coushy job at the Meat Council. Somebody warn Mossad!! ;-)

All jokes aside, it’s undeniable that the Nazis and all despotic regimes are aware of the power of strong graphics and semiotics. Think of any modern tyrant you can think of (Stalin, Mao, Kim Jong Il) and they have always relied of effective illustration posters. Arts, like science, can also be use for evil.

    • Lucy says:

“Vat do you mean I look like ze Nazi from propaganda?? I have never being in Germany! I never know of var in Germany! I am American cowboy! You see my gut tan, ja? Eaten ze meaten!!”

    • zeli says:

I agree r.p.junkie. It’s always caused me serious conflict that although I find the nazi philosophy abhorrent, I’ve always secretly admired their design style. Damn, they looked so good in their snappy uniforms (those jackboots… drool), with that crisp red and black stylistic bauhaus thing going on.

Unfortunately, they ruined that whole look for the rest of us; they took something cutting edge and groovy and gave it a completely evil connotation. Now, you can only use that feel in an ironic sense (unless you’re being pathetically neo-nazi).

Unless you’re the Meat Council of the USA, it seems.

  15. Camero says:

“…In February 1988, Fleming Companies, a food wholesaler based in Oklahoma City, distributed a poster depicting a ruddy-looking blond cowboy to its stores. With the caption, “America’s Meat Roundup,” the poster was the lead edge of company’s attempt to market meat-eating as a patriotic pastime.

The graphic was put together by an outside agency, and all went well for a few months, until, out in New Jersey, a college student thought that the image looked strangely familiar.

When the company got wind of the rumor that their meat roundup poster was lifted, down to the pixel, from a Hitler Youth poster out of the Nazi Third Reich, the first thing the executives did was say that the image had come from a live model. So, someone floated over the original image. As you might imagine, from comparing the two paintings, here, the jig was immediately up. Fleming offered a maroon-faced apology, destroyed all the images, fired the ad agency, and made other efforts to repair the damage from this grotesque incident.”

    • BBB says:

So it totally looks like this post isn’t any more original than the Meat Council ad.

    • catpaw says:

      Interesting. Thanks for the info.

    • Mario says:

I would have definitely sued for defamation of character. This seems like an obvious attack against meat by whomever worked at the ad agency.
The last thing any company needs is a direct link to genocide.

      • varuna says:

Because raising and killing animals for food isn’t akin to genocide at all…nope…

        • o-range says:

You know something? When cows develop opposable thumbs and the ability to inform me that they would really rather not be eaten, thankyouverymuch, then I’ll think about not eating meat. We have incisors so we can bite into vegetables, and we have cuspids so we can tear meat; we are omnivorous. That means we’re actually supposed to be eating meat with our vegetables.

I would also like to note that genocide is “the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group.” Now, I know you didn’t say that raising and killing animals for food IS genocide, but AKIN TO genocide. Tell me where in the definition of genocide is the indication that actually raising animals in order to eat them (and not just to kill them for fun and profit) is remotely akin to genocide.

          • HellHathNoFury says:

OOooooohhh, does varuna need some ice, for that EPIC BURN?!

          • adam antichrist says:

your right, it’s more akin to slavery.

            mmm, delicious slaves!

          • peensez says:

‘sides, if ghod wanted us to be vegetarians, he wouldn’t have made cows out of steak!

          • Candystripe Legs says:

We are omnivores but that doesn’t mean we are SUPPOSED to eat meat, we are ABLE to eat meat. And babies can’t talk, can we exploit them? It is obvious that cows feel pain, feel love, and have interest in self preservation, just because they can’t spell it out for us doesn’t mean we have the right to bring them into this world and destroy them just because we like cheeseburgers.

While it is not genocide but the intentional overbreeding of species that we have deemed lower than ourselves and those we call “pets” and enslaving and ultimately slaughtering them isn’t genocide, it is still pretty damn horrific.

          • swallis says:

I’m sick of the argument that the killing /eating of animals is akin to genocide. First off the statement that killing animals is wrong is silly, if I had to chose starvation vs eating an animal guess what? I’ll chose eating tyvm. Next remember that carrot was doing great folks till you pulled it out of the ground.

Just my two cents worth in support of O-rnge

            • Candystripe Legs says:

Yeah but you’re not in danger of starvation, I can tell if you own a computer chances are you have food in the fridge. Most of us don’t live in survival situations where its a do or die, a lot of us can go vegan but just won’t.

And a carrot is non-sentient and has no nervous system. And also something like half the corn grown in America goes to feed livestock, so going vegan saves animal life AND plant life. I’m sick of that argument also :P

    • Gandalfs Beard says:

Camero, do you have a source for your quote. I am interested in researching this further. Below is a quote from one of my other comments including the only reference I could find.

“Okay, after searching I finally found one reference to the case at Justia.com to FLEMING Companies vs an unnamed litigant dated Dec 7 1988.

Apparently the litigant was Jewish and found the poster offensive (as well he should). Apparently the lawsuit was dismissed, appealed, and the appeal was denied on the above date. It was unclear based on the notes when the actual ad campaign was run–but it is clear that The American Meat Council part of the poster is a fraud concocted by the advertiser commissioned by Fleming Companies.”

      • Camero says:

I do have the source but it won’t let me post the link. It’s from a March 31, 2008 article on harry allen dot info.

Because to eat meat is to follow a Nazi ideal, can’t you see??

    • Vanananas says:

      Veg yourself!

    • Contrarian says:

Quite the opposite; Hitler is possibly one of the most famous vegetarians ever…

      • wozzle says:

I’ve been told that Hitler really wasn’t a vegetarian; he just went off meat periodically for health reasons. People like to use his alleged vegetarianism to show that not all vegetarians are fine human beings, as if that wouldn’t be logically apparent anyway.

As a vegan, I find this use of an “evil” poster by the meat council very amusing, indeed.

        • mamarosa says:

          Me too!
          Still want a steak though.

        • varuna says:

I’m a vegan, and I just ate soy cheez that I knew was not 100% vegan. I really wanted pizza, though… O_o

Also, I want to have Perfect Hair Forever.

          • LoLa says:

So you claim to believe so strongly in these ideals… genocide of the animals and all that.. yet you toss them off casually because you “really wanted pizza”.

            Hypocrite, much?

            • varuna says:

The way I see it, the “carbon footprint” or whatever is nowhere near as great as eating dairy cheese. There was a milk derivative in it. It happens on accident (so as not to be rude to the maker of the foodz, or someone tells me it’s vegan and then it has dairy or something in it), in the 3 years I’ve been vegan. So what? You wanna fight about it?

          • Candystripe Legs says:

Then you are not a vegan, sorry. A vegan does NOT use animal products at all. That includes soy cheese with casein.

Sorry, but whats the difference between “I really wanted pizza” and “I really wanted a steak”? Especially when vegan pizza is pretty delicious? A dairy cow and her babies go through just as much if not more suffering than a beef cow.

            • varuna says:

Some people can’t afford fully vegan soy cheez. Besides, I was told it actually WAS vegan, and then after I found out that it had casein. :P

              • Candystripe Legs says:

You said you intentionally ate it, not accidentally, you knew and just really wanted the pizza, there’s a difference. I actually don’t have access to vegan cheese either, ever thing of *gasp* having a CHEESELESS pizza?

                • meow says:

                  Accidentally on purpose?

At least they’re MOSTLY vegan…yes? Doesn’t every bit make a difference? Some of you vegans are just so cynical.

                  • Candystripe Legs says:

No, she said “I just ate soy cheese that I knew wasn’t 100% vegan”, as in, as eating, she was aware that it was not vegan. Yeah you can accidentally eat something thats not vegan and still be vegan, it happens. But to intentionally eat an animal product is not vegan, simply put.

                    • gusta los patos says:

What if someone made a vegan something that had non-vegan soy cheese on it, and they ate it, knowing it wasn’t vegan, but didn’t want to upset or offend the person that made it? Maybe that’s what happened. You’re one of -those- vegans.

                      • Candystripe Legs says:

Why would they do that when the person should have known? Shouldn’t the vegan be offended or upset? I don’t eat steak if someone says “I made it for you!” Its silly to compromise one’s morals just for the sake of being “offensive”, does a strict Christian sleep with their partner before marriage because they don’t want to offend or upset them?

                    • varuna says:

Actually, someone made it for me. Mostly everyone there (servers and cooks alike) thinks that our soy cheez is actually vegan (only 2 vegans actually work there), and also the pesto…which, I’ve eaten both on several occasions. Twice because people initially told me they were vegan, and twice because it was already made for me and I would rather eat something than let it go to waste. I AM vegan, and I am proud. And guess what?? I use local HONEY!!!!! O NOES!!!1! And I WILL eat something (with egg, seafood, or small amounts of dairy) if it would otherwise go in the garbage. So f***ing what?? :P

                      • Candystripe Legs says:

Then you aren’t a vegan at all. If you will eat something thats going in the trash that is obviously an animal, I would guess that would make you a freegan. A vegan is someone who does not eat animal products, at all, and while mistakes are forgivable there are no other exceptions. Why would you want to have the label of “vegan” when it doesn’t apply to you? You aren’t even vegetarian if you eat sea animals, you’re a pescetarian.

      • Candystripe Legs says:

Yeah, apparently it was a PR campaign that Hitler was a vegetarian, he did avoid meat because of his bowels but he didn’t swear it off exclusively, apparently he would say sausage was his favourite food.

  25. A Random Pooka says:

Did anyone think that perhaps the meat poster came first? It would be more effective to steal a good pure American image and use it for your own cause than it would be to steal a hated image and try to put it on your product, expecting nobody to care or ever notice.

I know Camero’s got a fairly detailed report of what happened, and I’m not saying it’s wrong or right. Just that sometimes the popular story is an urban legend.

If I were printing Nazi propaganda posters, I’d definitely undermine the most American thing I could find.

    • Yeah.. says:

I was going to post the EXACT same thing. Chicken or the egg, anyone?

    • mike says:

it was made in 1988 (the meat poster) and if you know your history, then you know WWII was from 1938-1945

      • …& if you knew your Hellboy, you’d know that Hitler died in 1958 ;-)

      • A Random Pooka says:

Wait, can you go over those dates for me again? I got lost somewhere in your self righteous tone. You know, the one that started right when you said 1988, supplying data that isn’t part of the original information set. But, on the up side, at least it’s a completely arbitrary year with no source cited.

In that case, that Nazi propaganda poster was created in 1993 by a high school student in Moscow, Idaho as an art project involving the recycling of stock images to sell completely conflicting products or ideas …

        Sounds believable, doesn’t it?

  26. gaki says:

That’s what I’m thinking. In fact, I think it’s in a book by Jack Hamm, actually. Old art book that had been re-published likely.

    • Gandalfs Beard says:

Okay after some research, It seems this was actually a real poster commissioned by the Fleming meat company and based on the Nazi propaganda poster. See other posts on the subject.

I found some verification at Justia.com (a website that compiles and links to US Judicial decisions).

  39. Cait says:

kind of offtopic, but yesterday an american girl tried to make me believe that dutch and german were one and the same language. when i told her this was bs, she said she proved me wrong since it was stated like this in her dictionary and also told me that she was german. actually i am german and asked her: okay, dann sag doch mal was auf deutsch, wenn du so klug bist und alles weißt. but she didnt answer. i know germany and the netherlands are two different countries with different languages. i just wondered how often people want to discuss matters when they really dont have the slightest clues and just want to make other people feel inferior and even lie to achive that goal. kind of reminded me when reading the discussion here.

    • scott says:

Maybe it could be something close (like Spanish and Portuguese), but I think its safe to say that you were dealing with a blonde

      • A Random Pooka says:

Um, Spanish and Portuguese are only alike in that they originate like right next door to each other. Otherwise, they really aren’t. Spanish and Italian are an awful lot alike, though.

        • Gandalfs Beard says:

Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian are all part of the same Indo-European language subgroup. They are all Romance (Roman) languages based on Vulgar Latin. French has some Germanic influences, some dialects of Spanish and Portuguese are very influenced by Moorish (Arabic) as the Iberian Peninsula was occupied by Moors for hundreds of years.

    • Gandalfs Beard says:

Well, Dutch, German, Scandinavian, and English languages are all part of the same Germanic language group.

But the American Girl you quoted is clearly a moron who doesn’t know the difference between a language and a language group.

Which still totally proves your point Cait.

    • Clues for Hire says:

People discuss matters when they have no clue all the time. Just look at the comments on this post. Look at comments on any popular blog. Look at the comments on YouTube. Hang around in a cafe for a while and eavesdrop on conversations. People constantly yap on and on about things they know nothing about and, yes, some of them will resort to lying, plagiarism, intellectual bullying, urban legend, and all sorts of other tactics to try to prove their point. Some people just have to be “right” no matter how wrong they are, and some people are genuinely and absolutely CLUELESS.

    • Gandalfs Beard says:

Unfortunately Hitler got the idea for concentration camps from Native American Indian Reservations. He thought it was a swell idea to force all the people he didn’t like into small patches of land, starve them, and murder them.

Don’t forget the American Internment camps for Japanese in WW2. And after 911 the illegal and fascistic round-up and imprisonment of Muslim Men, Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib and the many other “internment camps” for people with no rights.

If it weren’t for Obama putting on the brakes, this country was just one step away from being the 4th Reich. Obama may be a centrist but that’s a damn sight better than the Hillbilly Theocratic Fascist Goose-steppers taking over. With a little luck and a lot of political pressure maybe we can push Obama to do a thorough House-cleaning as you suggest.

      • Alia says:

“Unfortunately Hitler got the idea for concentration camps from Native American Indian Reservations.”

And the term “concentration camp” comes from the time of Second Boer War.

Nothing really bad about copying a Nazi Party propaganda flag. Everyone thinks of Hitler’s Nazis when in fact the party was around long before the rise of Hitler. The swastika was around long before Hilter too. Who can accurately date this poster?

Oh and before you call me racist/anti-semitic — I’m half black so shut it!

    • Gandalfs Beard says:

Actually No. The German Workers Party (Deutsche Arbeitspartie or DAP) was founded in 1918. Hitler joined sometime around 1920 when it only had 54 members (he was the 55th). Rudolf Jung and Hitler renamed the party National Socialist German Workers Party (NAZI Party). Hitler became Chairman of the party in 1921.

The Swastika was an ancient symbol it is true–but in most Asian cultures was a symbol of peace. The Nazi’s perverted it and used as a symbol of their supposed ARYAN RACIAL SUPERIORITY, so you might want to reconsider your comment.

As to the actual date of the original poster, I am still researching that, but it is irrelevant as it clearly has the term Fuhrer (Leader) on it–a term Hitler used to promote himself and his ideology. So the poster is obviously from the Hitlerian Era.

  60. Mr.Clean says:

  62. Madameshabbs says:

Just for some info. The artist of these two posters is Octavus Roy Cohen, most known for his cover art on the Saturday Evening Post. Freelance artists, expecially in the 40′s and 50′s would abviously use some of the same art and not be too discriminating of who hired them.. just doing their jobs. Just FYI

    • Gandalfs Beard says:

That doesn’t sound right at all. Octavus Roy Cohen was a JEWISH author who wrote some stories for the Saturday Evening Post. He was also a novelist. He was best known for writing stories about African Americans in the Amos N’ Andy vein (i.e. typical racial stereotypes).

So it is extremely unlikely he could be the artist in question of the original poster. And he died in 1959, long before the second (copied) poster was made (late 1980s possibly 1988).

    See: Tomorrow’s Children (1934)

So when I see an american and a nazi poster that bear creepy similarities I say: BIG SURPRISE!!

Tell ya what do some web searches and decide for yourself. Look for ties between the Bush Family and Nazis – or America and Nazis. There’s a lot of video, audio and text on it.

But back to the photo, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same guy who drew it for both groups.

OK, why is National Socialism (Nazi) and Fascism on the far right, if Socialism and Communism are on the far left? Think about it. Don’t they all have very much in common? Nazism was all about 100% Government control over everything, and they sent millions to work camps and death camps. Wasn’t Stalin’s/Krushchev’s regime very similar (killing millions of Ukrainians and others); and what about Mao Zedong’s regime (total govt. control and slaughter of MILLIONS in China)? I have yet to hear anyone give me a valid reason why Nazism is on the far right of the political spectrum. The far right really is 0% government (total anarchy) and the far left is 100% Govt. (Communism and Fascism).

    Obvious 1940′s photoshop is obvious

  80. RMS says:

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this; America and Nazi Germany represent two totally different ideologies and simply because the posters are effectively the same does not mean the message contained within is the same. This is just as the Nazis co-opted the swastika and other runic imagery.

The cowboy promotes the ideal of the individual and his liberties, his freedom in the “Wild West.” Does the German poster represent freedom in any way, shape or form? Absolutely not. This isn’t “eerie,” it was a few lame kids not doing their homework and slacking off, copying what is the same design for this poster.

If we are going to discuss how “eerie” things like this are, does anyone find the U.S. Capitol “eerie” in how it is similar to imperial Roman construction? Yet amazingly, this republic has yet to see its first emperors. In short, this is being blown way out of proportion.

it’s like Disney reusing their animations for different movies, they didnt want to put in the effort to actually make a new poster. Big whoop – how would anyone in 1950-60s america have known that it was a fascist poster, anyway? we all only find out now, 40 years later.

  115. Heinz says:

Correct, communism and socialism is different ideologies and national socialism was regular socialism with an extreme nationalistic slant.
They were as left wing as any other socialist party.

  116. slaggingham says:

Do you know what’s funny as hell?

    A vegan animal rights activist who’s pro-abortion.

Not saying you are one, just saying that the irony is always funny.

  117. Gandalfs Beard says:

I agree in principle with you Varuna, and I certainly support PETAs goals to reduce cruelty to animals.

Unfortunately I am addicted to meat… LOL. I love Bacon and Steak. I try to at least buy free range meats. Though I would probably be a near vegetarian if I actually had to kill my own meat, because I am a wuss.

  118. slaggingham says:

Is it okay to kill kangaroo joeys before they develop in the pouch?

I mean, they aren’t really “developed” yet, so would it be bad if somebody reached in there, grabbed one, and killed it?

And if not… at what point did developing marsupials surpass developing sentients on the sliding scale of morality?

  119. Feisty says:

Looks like someone being lazy who thought they wouldn’t get caught.

  120. Gandalfs Beard says:

Heinz, you really need to study politics and History better…if you can actually pull your head out of the clouds to read.

There is nothing Socialist about National Socialism. The name was used to CO-OPT the language of the workers. Hitler and the Nazis did manage to bamboozle a few workers into joining–they were called Brownshirts. They were then used to attack other workers and break the unions who were targetted even before the Jews.

They did the dirty work and when they went looking for their reward they were themselves suppressed.

Hitler supported and was supported by the Capitalist class. Even Mussolini spelled it out: The Corporate State is Fascism–look it up.

American Capitalists like Ford, Hearst, Walt Disney etc. loved Hitler for smashing unions and murdering Socialists and Grandpappy Bush was Hitler’s Banker. Okay mini-History lesson over, now go and read something that isn’t written by Glen Beck, Bill O’ Reilly or Charles Krauthammer.

  121. Gandalfs Beard says:

Know what’s FUNNIER…A**hole Fascist pro-”lifers” who don’t give a crap about fetuses after they are born, then support the Death Penalty, then sending teenagers to be killed in Imperialist Wars of Aquisition while murdering millions of other people for their oil, resources and labour.

  122. varuna says:

ahem, the politically correct term is “conservative”. :)

  123. slaggingham says:

abortion vs. death penalty… hm… I prefer to kill life forms only after they’ve actually done harm.

“Imperialist”: the go-to word of the drooling imbecile.

  124. Gandalfs Beard says:

Spoken like a true brainwashed Imperialist Dupe. Get a dictionary.

Also, I prefer being able to choose whether or not a parasitic Life Form grows inside me.

  125. thepbjninja says:

This is just my personal opinion, but I belive you do have a choice. It’s called abstinence. If you don’t want a baby, don’t partake in the act that makes them. The whole, basic, primitive purpose of the deed is to make these “Parasitic Life Forms”. Yeah, it’s difficult thing to do, but I feel it’s better than raising a screaming brat you didn’t want (Or getting communal diseases, for that).

I think it’s a bit like cutting back on fat-laden unhealthy food and getting enough exercise so you can be fit and healthy. You could call it an anti-baby diet, if you wish.

And yes, I do practice what I preach.

  126. slaggingham says:

Spoken like a Zombie Running-Dog lackey.

Also, you probably ARE a parasitic life form. Get a job!

  127. Metreon Cascade says:

I’m pro-choice, but offspring are not parasites. You don’t have to distort biology to make a point that was already made and codified into law.

  128. $19.99 says:

    depends… how does kangaroo taste?

on second thought, there’s not enough meat on a joey to put forth the effort.

  129. thepbjninja says:

Well, I can’t take much offense to the zombie part, seeing as it didn’t make much sense. (It was creative tough, I’ll give you that.)

Also, what does my having a job have to do with abstinence? I see no connection, whatsoever.

  130. Gandalfs Beard says:

What?……In this economy? Who F***ed that up? Oh right…..it was CAPITALISTS feeding on themselves and everyone else–i.e. PARASITES.

  131. Gandalfs Beard says:

    @ Slaggingham

  132. Gandalfs Beard says:

Ever since I saw the movie Alien I have had total respect for the position of choice ;) .

Sure, I may be overstating my case, but it is necessary to get the point across. In a sense, even though a fetus is an offspring, for approximately 9 months it is parasitic in nature. Now that’s not necessarily a bad thing–it just describes how a mammalian fetus survives until it is brought to term.

Personally, I think everyone should have a choice about whether or not to allow another life form to inhabit one’s body.
