The “American Meat Council” struck me as odd, because Beef producers and Pork, for instance, producers are rivals, not allies. Sure enough, the poster is not from the American Meat Council, but from a local grocery supplier in Oklahoma City, called “Fleming Foods.”
well, come on, there was a rationing problem during WW2 in america. people were saving as much as they could of food so they could support the war effort. people even started growing “victory gardens” they were simply patches of grass where people would grow their own food so they wouldn’t have to buy it, thus help the war effort.

Vegans are very holier than thou about such things because they don’t really understand biology. There’s no reason that killing a shrimp is inherently worse than chopping down a tree. Its simply that they don’t want to acknowledge the fact that, in fact, all living things can sense when their environment is bad for them. While they do not perceive the world in the same way humans do, even very simple organisms can sense that their environment is bad for them.
Vegans are bad people because they are in denial about what they’re doing. I understand what I’m doing by eating meat, but they don’t understand what they’re doing by cutting down trees, eating vegetables, or taking medications.
You are dumb, ignorant and lowbrow. Indeed they know that plants can feel pain. But like you said plants can feel only a minimum of pain while animals are very much like us. So vegans choose the lesser evil.

Gandalf’s Beard – sorry, but you’re wrong. The “America’s Meat Roundup” poster was part of a 1988 ad campaign by the American Meat Council. The campaign was abandoned when it was discovered that the Nazi poster had been used as the template for the meat poster.
Perhaps JeffK627, but I don’t think so. The American meat industry is represented by The American Meat INSTITUTE, The American Meat Packers Association was it’s original name.
There is also the American Meat Science Association, The CANADIAN Meat Council, The North American Meat Processers Association……. and numerous smaller USA meat industry associations representing Lamb, Pork, Beef etc.–note NONE of them are called the American Meat Council. But the Associations I mentioned all have their own websites.
If you google American Meat Council you will find only this Lookalike Page. All the other hits lead to the REAL associations I described above.
Okay, after searching I finally found one reference to the case at Justia.com to FLEMING Companies vs an unnamed litigant dated Dec 7 1988.
Apparently the litigant was Jewish and found the poster offensive (as well he should). Apparently the lawsuit was dismissed, appealed, and the appeal was denied on the above date. It was unclear based on the notes when the actual ad campaign was run–but it is clear that The American Meat Council part of the poster is a fraud concocted by the advertiser commissioned by Fleming Companies.

Fascists are people like the Republican party – basically, you have the government and business in close cahoots. Fascism simply formalizes it. They also heavily exploit religion for their own political purposes, and engender hatred towards “outsiders” (Republicans hate gays, minorities, and immigrants; Nazis hate gays, minorities, and immigrants – little difference there, Nazis just cast the net a bit wider on who to hate) to deflect hatred from themselves. Socialists, like the socialist party of the United States, are much, much less closely related to Nazis than Republicans are, ideologically speaking.

I agree r.p.junkie. It’s always caused me serious conflict that although I find the nazi philosophy abhorrent, I’ve always secretly admired their design style. Damn, they looked so good in their snappy uniforms (those jackboots… drool), with that crisp red and black stylistic bauhaus thing going on.
Unfortunately, they ruined that whole look for the rest of us; they took something cutting edge and groovy and gave it a completely evil connotation. Now, you can only use that feel in an ironic sense (unless you’re being pathetically neo-nazi).

We are omnivores but that doesn’t mean we are SUPPOSED to eat meat, we are ABLE to eat meat. And babies can’t talk, can we exploit them? It is obvious that cows feel pain, feel love, and have interest in self preservation, just because they can’t spell it out for us doesn’t mean we have the right to bring them into this world and destroy them just because we like cheeseburgers.
While it is not genocide but the intentional overbreeding of species that we have deemed lower than ourselves and those we call “pets” and enslaving and ultimately slaughtering them isn’t genocide, it is still pretty damn horrific.

The way I see it, the “carbon footprint” or whatever is nowhere near as great as eating dairy cheese. There was a milk derivative in it. It happens on accident (so as not to be rude to the maker of the foodz, or someone tells me it’s vegan and then it has dairy or something in it), in the 3 years I’ve been vegan. So what? What if someone made a vegan something that had non-vegan soy cheese on it, and they ate it, knowing it wasn’t vegan, but didn’t want to upset or offend the person that made it? Maybe that’s what happened. You’re one of -those- vegans.

Mostly everyone there (servers and cooks alike) thinks that our soy cheez is actually vegan (only 2 vegans actually work there), and also the pesto…which, I’ve eaten both on several occasions. kämpft is more like “struggle”. So it could be in the sense of “I struggled with depression”, where you could interpret that as “suffering” or as “fought with”.

Did anyone think that perhaps the meat poster came first? It would be more effective to steal a good pure American image and use it for your own cause than it would be to steal a hated image and try to put it on your product, expecting nobody to care or ever notice.

Actually No. The German Workers Party (Deutsche Arbeitspartie or DAP) was founded in 1918. Hitler joined sometime around 1920 when it only had 54 members (he was the 55th). Rudolf Jung and Hitler renamed the party National Socialist German Workers Party (NAZI Party). Hitler became Chairman of the party in 1921.
The Swastika was an ancient symbol it is true–but in most Asian cultures was a symbol of peace. The Nazi’s perverted it and used as a symbol of their supposed ARYAN RACIAL SUPERIORITY, so you might want to reconsider your comment.
As to the actual date of the original poster, I am still researching that, but it is irrelevant as it clearly has the term Fuhrer (Leader) on it–a term Hitler used to promote himself and his ideology. So the poster is obviously from the Hitlerian Era.

Well, yes. The Nazi poster is the original, and widely shown in textbooks dealing with WW2. It looks like whoever was doing the beef poster shopped it from the Nazi poster.

Just for some info. The artist of these two posters is Octavus Roy Cohen, most known for his cover art on the Saturday Evening Post. Freelance artists, expecially in the 40′s and 50′s would abviously use some of the same art and not be too discriminating of who hired them.. just doing their jobs. Just FYI
That doesn’t sound right at all. Octavus Roy Cohen was a JEWISH author who wrote some stories for the Saturday Evening Post. He was also a novelist. He was best known for writing stories about African Americans in the Amos N’ Andy vein (i.e. typical racial stereotypes).
So it is extremely unlikely he could be the artist in question of the original poster. And he died in 1959, long before the second (copied) poster was made (late 1980s possibly 1988).
That’s gotta be either FAKE or intentional.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this; America and Nazi Germany represent two totally different ideologies and simply because the posters are effectively the same does not mean the message contained within is the same. This is just as the Nazis co-opted the swastika and other runic imagery.
The cowboy promotes the ideal of the individual and his liberties, his freedom in the “Wild West.” Does the German poster represent freedom in any way, shape or form? Absolutely not. There is nothing Socialist about National Socialism. The name was used to CO-OPT the language of the workers. Hitler and the Nazis did manage to bamboozle a few workers into joining–they were called Brownshirts. They were then used to attack other workers and break the unions who were targetted even before the Jews.

This is just my personal opinion, but I belive you do have a choice. It’s called abstinence. If you don’t want a baby, don’t partake in the act that makes them. The whole, basic, primitive purpose of the deed is to make these “Parasitic Life Forms”. Yeah, it’s difficult thing to do, but I feel it’s better than raising a screaming brat you didn’t want (Or getting communal diseases, for that).
I think it’s a bit like cutting back on fat-laden unhealthy food and getting enough exercise so you can be fit and healthy. You could call it an anti-baby diet, if you wish.

Sure, I may be overstating my case, but it is necessary to get the point across. In a sense, even though a fetus is an offspring, for approximately 9 months it is parasitic in nature. Now that’s not necessarily a bad thing–it just describes how a mammalian fetus survives until it is brought to term.
Personally, I think everyone should have a choice about whether or not to allow another life form to inhabit one’s body.
