Disney traces over scenes all the time. There are tons of videos on youtube that do side by side comparisons of loads of scenes. It’s nothing to do with Baloo and Little John being played by the same voice actor; it’s Disney being tight and saving money. They’re not just drawn the same, they’re literally traced over the old cells, with added hats and clothes.

Disney reused a lot of characters and a lot of the character scenes are the same. In the old days they did it to reduce man hours and it was much quicker to reuse… movies got out faster. The dance scenes are the same in the jungle book and robin hood…. cinderella has the same dance scenes as beauty and the beast….ect…ect..

They’re not cheap bastards, throughout most of Disney’s history they were not making much money at all for themselves because they were cycling all of their earnings back into the business.

And apparently nobody on here has ever heard of the word homage.

Robin Hood in particular is an homage to a lot of things. It was made just after Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and shows a lot of parallels to the storyline and characters. Robin Hood is the ultimate antihero and the Middle Ages in France and England WAS the “Wild West” of it’s day.

And of course they recycle their footage. It’s cheaper and it’s a great way to honor the art and artists of the past.

If by appropriate for viewers under the age of ten you mean not appealing to the average adult at all (thus reinforcing the false notion that cartoons are for kids only), and reinforcing violence and stereotypes of all types of people vastly more than modern movies, then yes, yes they were.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the fact just about all of the characters were also in Bedknobs and Broomsticks. As much as it was cost cutting, I think Disney at the time was trying to make ‘cartoon actors’.

This wasn’t exactly intentional… Robin Hood was a very low budget film, so to cut costs they basically traced over frames from old Disney films and used Baloo for Little John. At one point, Little John does a dance identical to one Baloo does because it was the same dance that they traced.

This saved a lot of money because they didn’t have to film live-action reference footage.
