I think that when Rod Stewart did his standards albums for J Records, Barry Manilow tried to blatantly copy Rod’s spiked up hair and did that look for HIS first standards styled album. And you have the end result of Barry looking like Rod! Barry kept it smooth looking for years until he spiked it up the last decade (the 2000s).
