I just dug up a bunch of these ugly shrooms in my yard too. A fungus. Yuck. I will discard them right away. Yuck. They grew only this year. We cut down a maple tree 4 years ago and I’ve been feeding lots of birds in the area where these ugly seeping mushrooms have decided to grow.

Yes that is a fungus. Had one once. Meticulous lawn care does not always eradicate them.

Find yourself a mushroom expert and find out if it’s edible–you’d be able to feed your family for a week with that thing! (And yeah, I’m at least partially serious–we’ve got some things called “elephant ear bolites” that grow in our yard and a neighbor that loves the things, and they’re a lot less pretty than this one…)
