  1. ... says:

This is the exact moment where I stop visiting to this site…

  2. Beth says:

Its meant to be him…the caterpillar in James and the Giant Peach actually calls him ‘Skellington’.

  3. RiderLeangle says:

Really?… You don’t think being made by the same person doesn’t have something to do with it?…

    • Peaches says:

James and the Giant Peach was not directed by Tim Burton, it’s by Henry Selick.

      • deanbmmv says:

Henry Selick directed both. Tim Burton was producer on both, and writer for Nightmare Before Christmas.
Though which created Skelington I wouldn’t know, though the director tend to have the more artistic role, so I’d guess Selick.

        • Peaches says:

          Burton created Skellington.

          • wheeeeedoggie says:

Selick and Burton worked jointly on the projects. Burton gets most of the credit, but Selick was the director. The person on the set everyday- working with the puppeteers- that was Selick, not Burton. After the sucess of NBX, Selick was, not unsuprisingly, a bit put out by all the accolades going to Burton alone, rumor has it.

            • Don says:

And it goes on, what with the general assumption that Coraline was a Burton movie when it was billed as being brought to us by the people who did Nightmare Before Christmas.

            • librophilia says:

Selick did direct both films, but as Peaches said, Jack Skellington was purely a Tim Burton creation. NBC is based on a poem Burton wrote: http://www.timburtoncollective.com/nmbcpoem.html

If I were Selick, I’d be kind of pissed at the Coraline ads, too. His name was hardly mentioned, and you KNOW they billed it was “from the creator of The Nightmare Before Christmas” on purpose to make people think it was Burton. XD

              • KeladryMT says:

It’s the same character guys. They call him Skellington. It’s a lovely little reference to Nightmare, which Selick did work on. It is in fact supposed to be Jack. It’s his nod to NBC.

          • Traitorfish says:

            Burton created Selick.

    • Kayla says:

Hasn’t Selick said that Jack is in nearly all of his movies in some way or form. I thought I remembered reading something about at one point in Coraline when the other mother makes eggs the yolk is Jack’s face.

      • spin says:

Also in beetlejuice when he has the merry go round on his head (near end of movie) Jacks head is on top. Never saw the coraline/egg yolk one though

    • jheezy says:

      agreed (:

    • jacs101 says:

thank you. some one who isnt stupid

  4. John says:

SMH this should be on FAILBLOG

  5. Jimmy says:

Two skeletons, made by the same guy, with the same name, totally look like each other.

  6. Meg says:

Haha. Glad to see all the comentators realize how horrible this went down.

Who’s excited for Alice in Wonderland? *huggles Tim Burton*

  7. Jeffrey says:

    I wonder why

  8. Now I’m glad I didn’t see this movie. I read “James and the Giant Peach” many times, and I don’t ever recall there being a pirate in it. I guess in these modern times flying through the air in an oversized fruit with giant insects isn’t adventurous enough if there isn’t a walking cadaver involved.

  9. Ray says:

Somebody please flay the person responsible for putting this one on the site, until they too look like Skellington.

    Thank you in advance

  10. Geeeeeneticz says:

….FAIL! And yes, SanityInjection, I’m fairly sure the Pirate does not appear in the book.

  11. If you don’t like what they post why do you keep coming on the site to comment stupid things?

  12. NeopToIemy says:

    How do these get posted.
    Research Fail

  13. J says:

That would be because Jack Skellington can be found everywhere. In addition to James and the Giant Peach, he can be found in the opening scene of Sleepy Hollow, that’s him in his scarecrow costume. His head is on top of the carosel in Beetlejuice. Little skulls decorating a cake in Corpse Bride resemble Jack as well.

  14. LGHunter says:

It’s called a “cameo”. Or, an inside joke. Or even an easter egg.

Some directors who work with Tim Burton like to put little homages to him in their movies. In this case, Jack Skellington became a pirate. No, it’s not that original, but still… Although there was nothing in that I saw in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.

Hell, in one of the test shots of “Nightmare Before Christmas”, when the witches are playing hockey/ringette in one of the last scenes, instead of a pumpkin the animators used a model of Tim Burton’s severed head!

  15. ... says:

why use an illustration of jack?

  16. Ichibod says:

Yeah, Selick is rather predictable. Even the Other Mother kinda looks the same.

  17. FMH says:

As far as I recall the “Making of” they used the same puppet in both movies. So, yes. Fail.

  18. Biffy says:

It belongs on failblog, so here it is.

    http://cheezburger.com/view.aspx?ciid=4926142

  19. cupcakes says:

you know, i thought this same thing when i saw james and the giant peach. i was like o.O

  20. unleashedd says:

obviously.. Tim Burton and Henry Selick both worked on NBC and James and the Giant Peach. XD

  21. INventive says:

And next think you know, they’ll say “HEY, That Edward Scissorhands guy looks JUST like Johnny Depp!”

    *facepalm*

  22. Omphaloskepsis says:

You DO realize this was intentional?

  23. amelia says:

Uhg seriously? TO say a Signature Tim Burton art looks like another Tim Burton Art peice is well… obvious..
    wtf

  24. Jess says:

wow so many haters. get a life.

  25. Jess says:

    …..idiot. -.-”

  26. Sylar'd says:

    DUH.

its SUPPOSED to be jack skellington.

  27. k-eon says:

lets just stop visiting this site and maybe it will go away!

  28. vanhenry71 says:

Hay an actor has to ‘eat’, so why not other movies?

  29. Jack says:

wow, youre all idiots… This is the same character, Tim Burton and Selick worked on this film, it is the same character – its even in the same toy range ffs

  30. Casey says:

It’s not only MEANT to look like Jack, it’s the same stop motion doll. They still had him left over from NBC, and just re-dressed the puppet.

  31. Taylor says:

They look the same because they are both Tim Burton films. duh. All TB films look the same so its not really a shock

    • commentfight says:

sweeny todd is on HBO right now *yawn, all i’ll say is I want to do everything to Mr. Burtons wife, Helena!!! DAMN!!

  32. staley says:

    different director, same writer

  33. anonymus says:

I think everytime I come to thsi site it gets worse, but that’s why I come here. :P

  34. tea says:

….It is the same, Tim Burton did both……

  35. Ducky says:

It IS Jack Skellington. He has a ‘cameo’ in JATGP. IMDB mentions it in TNBC trivia section. Silly silly poster:P

  36. Rai says:

The pirate is jack. im not joking

  37. Neitherworld says:

Reason why I never go to this place: They were made by the EXCATCT same person(Tim Burton did both movies)

  38. facepalm says:

i love how almost every single post here is somebody calling everybody idiots because they were both made by Tim Burton, as if they are the first ones to bring that up. FAIL

  39. NellieLovett says:

only because one of the jack puppets from TNBC was used in james and the giant peach. also, the centipede says SKELLINGTON!!!!! sorry to b critical but i’m a major selick and burton fan.

  40. Eni says:

It’s the same. Jack also made two more cameos, one as the top of the carousel hat in Beetlejuice and another during Tim Burton’s first stop motion short film, Vincent. It’s just like the red and green skeletons that pop up every now and again in a Burton film.

  41. collin's mommy says:

The “james” credits actually read, “Jack Skellington as ‘Pirate Skellington’.

  42. Rowan says:

Thats because both of the films were made by Tim Burton.

  43. Emily says:

In the commentary for Nightmare Before Christmas, Burton said that Jack’s first film appearance was a cameo in James and the Giant Peach. Skellington had been a character in Burton’s head for many years before the production of the movie.

  44. di says:

thats because it is Tim burton drew for both movies
jack is also in beetlejuice and the corpse bride

  45. lucy says:

Um… well it is the same character. You see him in Beetlejuice and the short film Vincent both by Tim Burton and both done before the Nightmare Before Christmas was released

  46. Lee says:

yeah, it was Tim Burton, the director of both films, who decided to put a cameo for Jack in James and The Giant Peach

  47. Paloma says:

C’mon, The Centipede clearly says “Skellington” when he sees him. How can u possibly think this is a rip off like sinario. Tim Burton must have let Henry Selick do it on purpose. Haven’t you notived in every Burton fild, produced or directed, there’s something from a former movie incorperated? It’s easy to tell.

  48. Hill says:

    its kinda funny
i’ve been saying this to my friends for years
but I mean tim burton did produce both so…

  49. hlb says:

    it’s called a cameo.

  50. Hailey says:

Its called recycling. And that’s exactly what Tim Burton did.
He had the leftovers from a Nightmare Before Christmas and decided to use them.

  51. Shelly says:

It is supposed to be Jack…in the movie one of the people says “-gasp-Its a Skellington!!”

  52. Paul says:

What like 100 people already said, there the same. and tim burton did both movies.

  53. Lizzie says:

Thats because they are… they are both Tim Burton and if you listen the centipeade says “a SKELLINGTON” not a skelleton…

  54. drumblanket says:

uhm…. that could be because…. its sort of a cameo BY skellington..

  55. kitty says:

hun, i’m sure a lot of people have already said this, but i’m too lazy to read all the comments before posting.

    so.

they actually used one of jack skellington’s stop-motion puppet and skelarmature to make the pirate captain. a bit of an inside joke of henry selick’s (he’s the director of NBC and J&TGP) also, skelarmature is expensive. gotta do something with it.

  56. dani says:

Tim Burton tends to slip jack or a ‘jack-esk’ character into all his films.

  57. Tristan says:

    Jack is the pirate moron

The pirate is one of the reasons that i love james and the giant peach

  58. JD says:

Tim Burton used the same doll for both James and the Giant Peach, and Nightmare Before Christmas, and all those other short movies Jack is in. OF COURSE THEY LOOK THE SAME

  59. heartbreak says:

It’s meant to look like him. Tim Burton created both movies, duh

  60. ! says:

Well both of those movies were produced by Tim Burton, so it’s not that surprising that there would be some similarities between the two of them.

  61. mischief says:

    bahahahahaha! you’re an idiot..

  62. Todd says:

Both Nightmare before christmas and james and the giant peach are from burton… he did that on purpose

  63. Gl0wst1ckdr3ams says:

um, if you look at a intrveiw with the designers from the movie, they say “the pirat IS jack skellington” FAIL.

  64. Josalyne says:

    Jack is the pirate skeleton.
Tim Burton worked on James, and Henry Selik directed both.
    It’s a cameo appearance.

Someone might have said this already, but there you go.

I was in a collectables shop, and found nightmare before christmas toys, and “Pirate Captain Jack” was in with them. He had a nightmare box and everything.

  65. kelly says:

Tim Burton created the Nightmare Before Christmas, all out of clay. And he helped produce the claymations in this movie, it’s intentional

  66. jake says:

THE PIRATE IS JACK!!! THE CENTIPEDE CALLS HIM “A SKELL-ING-TON!” IT WAS A CAMEO FOR JACK, DID YOU KNOW THAT JAKE IS ALSO IN THE CORALINE MOVIE???

  67. maisy says:

tim burton directed james and the giant peach AND the nightmare before christmas you dip…

  68. emily says:

yea, it’s suppose to look alike. look it up. tim burton was one of the producers of this film, along side some of the creators.. its like a little “easter egg” if you will, for people who are fans of burton, or just like those films.. he’s also hidden within several other burton movies.

  69. Teachan says:

Well it’s not exactly a minor detail is it? They made a really stupid and obvious mistake. Although the excessive amounts of people pointing it out is getting annoying.

  70. i knew that they were the same skeletons even when i was a little kid
