Hahaha! You guys… ok, the only reason Ivan is placed to the left, when he clearly should be on the right… is that I did not really think of that in the moment I did the caption. Thats it. Nothing else.
I just thought it looked better like this, not thinking that it should be the other way around.

I think it would be news to the “Tsar of All Russia” if you told him he wasn’t Russian.

I can only see the “Scandinavian” part if you are talking about the “русь”, or “Rus”, who were Varangian in origin but whose descendants now include Russians, Belorussians, and Ukrainians.

I’ve got a ushanka too, and I share your opinion of it. When I wore it to work I’d either get stares or people who knew me would tease the hell out of me. Better that, though, than frostbite…

By the way, mine is very un-P.C., too; the brand name is “Mad Bomber” and it’s made of rabbit fur… if certain folks these days saw the label, I’d probably have to deal with an attempted lynching.

Well a stereotype is when the actions/looks/speech of at least one member of a group is projected onto all memebers of the group. So yes, an actual Russian can be a stereotype. Just like an actual white guy can be a stereotype. An actual “Bro” (you know what I’m talking abou–Hey, let’s play MADDEN!) can be a stereotype. An actual gay person can be a stereotype, etc., etc.

I love my ushanka. It is a very nice thing to wear on a cold day. Of course, going into the grocery store in the US wearing a big fuzzy Russian hat can cause some stares. Agreed about women with cold chins, though they do have mufflers and scarves and stuff. I feel sorrier for them because of the big fuzzy beard they have to interact with, than the one they lack.
