  1. Maira says:

I wonder if Beck was making a jab at Green Day.

    • Brandt says:

Actually, this isn’t from Beck, the artist; it’s from an anime named after him :) It was released in 2004/5 in America.

  2. AtomicPunk says:

    isnt Beck older than greenday??

    • Losty says:

      @AtomicPunk

Actually, both Beck (the band) and Green Day are almost exactly the same age. (Green Day is about a year older) Both bands formed in the late 80′s

Although, when Green Day started they weren’t technically ‘Green Day’, they were in fact called ‘Sweet Children’.
      :P
      -Massive Green Day fan XD

    • RS says:

      How would that be relevant?

    • Brandt says:

Also, this isn’t actually anything by the musician.

  3. mudkipz says:

BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad is an anime, not the crazy musician :D

    • It was a manga first, the name of the group in it and the fact that they are so similar is on purpose.

      • mudkipz says:

The manga was just called Beck, the anime was Mongolian Chop Squad ^^ so technically, it wasn’t a manga first XD

        • theothervic says:

Beck was named after the guitarist’s dog, with full knowledge of the already famous musicians Beck and Jeff Beck. When they started selling albums in America, they were renamed Mongolian Chop Squad to avoid confusion… in both the manga and anime. So as stated, it was a manga first, then an anime. The manga has finished, unfortunately, but the start of several chapters had members of the band doing parodies of/paying homage to other bands’ album covers and well-known images. So again, the similarity to Green Day is very intentional.

        • elJay says:

Nope, in the manga AND in the anime they are named BECK. But their music label found that name lame and sold CDs in america under the name mongolian chop squad. further questions? xD Anime nerd ftw

  4. Oh, look. Another “this album cover looks like that album cover” comparison.

    Awesome.

We never get enough of those, and they’re always thought provoking and insightful.

    • bob says:

erm…. i think thats the point of the site, its called totally looks like, did you come to the wrong place?

      • McDoom says:

Yeah, but underneath it says ‘*funny* look-a-likes and doppelgangers’ (emphasis mine).

There’s nothing very funny about pointing out the resemblance between a thing and the other thing it was designed to resemble.

        • ZOMGbies says:

….Thats the whole point of this site, if you dont find it funny go to something else?

          • McDoom says:

You don’t find coincidental, random and odd resemblances much funnier? I know I do. When, instead of that, you point out that Dark Helmet TLL Darth Vader, or an Elvis impersonator TLL Elvis, or Barry Trotter and the Shameless Parody TLL a Harry Potter book… the response is not ‘oh, hah, yeah, that’s funny’ but ‘er… yeah. That’s kind of the point of those things’.

            • ZOMGbies says:

All im saying is the whole concept of this site is to point out things that look similar, and if thats not your type of humor, theres other site to look at.

              • McDoom says:

No, the concept is to point out *funny* resemblances. Coincidences are funny. Pointing out the obvious/intentional isn’t. Can you imagine a stand-up comedian getting on stage and saying “Hey, you know that Weird Al song ‘Fat’? It TOTALLY sounds like ‘Bad’ by Michael Jackson! What’s up with THAT?!”

                • Jason says:

A coincident implies that it was (likely) unintended. This was intended. Not a coincidence. Also, agreed, not funny.

  5. Peter Griffin says:

Everything that’s been done before totally looks like everything else that’s totally been done before.

  6. Fail says:

It’s totally a homage you fools

  7. Coppeliad says:

    Obvious homage is obvious.

  8. Meowth says:

I’d like to see that Anime…

    • mae-chan says:

      ::lends Meowth her copy::

Well… no not really. But I’m sure you could get it thru netflix or something ::coughs::mininova::cough:: . It’s a very good anime. And the soundtracks are exceptional as well. They do a cover of a Beatles song that I really enjoyed.

      • Meowth says:

I don’t rent. I prefer to own all of my Anime, and I currently cannot afford to buy Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad. I did want to buy it when it came in those special edition boxes, though, but I didn’t, and probably couldn’t have afforded it then, either.

  9. RJ Lowe says:

No no, it’s nothing alike. There’s 6 silhouettes instead of 3 and there’s clearly more letters in Green Day than Beck, so less rainbow beams.

    Total TLL fail.

  10. lemnas says:

there is an r in squad lol in the comparison block at the bottom of the picture

  11. kenzie says:

Tell me this is fake. Its the same font, same colors, same everything. Aren’t there copywright laws that prevent this kind of stuff from happening>?

  12. Cisco54 says:

…and they’re both reminiscent of the Beatle’s cover for the Magical Mystery Tour album, but you whippersnappers wouldn’t know about that.

    • snuzzle says:

Er, the only similarity is the fact that there’s lines coming out of the letters. The MMT has rainbow colored lines, these covers are a theme of colors (orange, yellow, red and magenta). There are no silhouettes on MMT, just the Beatles in animal suits. And a rainbow colored stars sprinkled around, while the name of the Beatles is spelled out with stars. Some of us “young whipper snappers” actually are familiar with the classics. ;)

      • Cisco54 says:

whippersnapper should look up the word “reminiscent’ – I never said it was an exact copy. Glad you’re into the classics at least though : )

        • snuzzle says:

I know what reminiscent means… and I don’t think they are ;P Too many differences to say they are imo. But I grew up on a steady diet of Beatles vinyl. So yay for good music :)

    • PAUL says:

      You are an idiot.

  13. what says:

The guy who draws the comic draws an homage to a famous album cover (but with his characters in it) at the start of every chapter. You could find tons more just by flipping through the comic.

So chill on the copyright stuff.

  14. Jon says:

I’m pretty sure the Green Day cover is an homage to some album cover from the early 70′s. This deserves further investigation.

  15. jl5691426 says:

Nuh-unh! Green Day only has three guys on the cover!

  16. Seriously, can the mods of this site stop accepting cover art and movie posters? The same design firms produce all that stuff and they re-use their own designs all the time as well as stealing from each other. It’s so commonplace that it’s almost more worthy of mention if you see something original.

  17. T.R. says:

This was done on purpose. BECK is a Japanese graphic novel about a band, and the covers are made to look like famous album covers. They’ve done HELP! as well.

  18. RS says:

Beck, in this context, is a fictional comic book character. So you fail.

  19. RealBronzeClaws says:

Depp: Be nice to Green Day. They rock. MAJORLY.

(Epic moment in time: Billie Joe Armstrong CROWD SURFING!!!!!!!!)

  20. Marekatt says:

    Darn weeaboos.

  21. katwhacker says:

Well, yeah, they’re supposed to look alike. I READ Beck, so… They actually said that their covers were supposed to look like the covers of rock artist albums, just with the Beck crew put in. That was completely intentional.

  22. Joe says:

Beck was in a futrurama episoed, season 3 episoed 13,” Bending in the wind”. Some interesting stuff in the dvd comentary like the becktionary…made up words to make his lyrics rhyme…funny stuff. Gotta love Beck.

  23. stfuyou says:

they might look the same, but at least we know which record SOUNDS better.
cough cough green day cough cough.

    • mae-chan says:

It wouldn’t be hard to guess since Beck Mongolian Chop Squad is a fictional band. Though you really shouldn’t judge without hearing. The soundtrack that came out for the anime was an above average soundtrack, particularly considering it’s Japanese bands singing in English, which always tends to get muddled.

  24. Elwing says:

    oops xD

  25. zambo says:

Green day = sell-out to punk

  26. an1sh says:

the original manga(beck) talks about the band inspirational to its musical syles, even if you look at some of the break pages(pages inbetween each chapters) the artist draws famous album arts with the beck band members instead of the original album art band

    tl:dr: it was intentional.

  27. dag says:

There some MOD SQUAD Posters from the 60′s TV show that looked like this.

  28. brettr says:

I just had a brilliant idea for my own CD cover

  29. MIKE! says:

They are supposed to look the same

  30. Taira says:

Yo Beck is very good sery ang Green Day is very nice soud Domo domo

  31. Ishan says:

Harold Sakuishi, the author of Beck, payed some tribute in every chapter of the story. He did the rolling stones, RHCP, Green Day, Blankey Jet City, the pillows, etc.
ie: Yeah, it was supposed to be like that.

  32. kat says:

omg, i totally screamed when i saw this because i am the biggest green day fan in the universe and this is just so cool. i’ve seen the one thats not green day’s album cover, and i dont know who stole whose cover, but its really cool.

  33. keik says:

You guys are completly wrong! This isn’t Jeff Beck or Beck musicians covers – it’s from manga in which, there were otns of those – also one like Nirvana’s cover or Oasis… It was on purpose and you guys just made yourself look funny. Fail.

  34. Erika says:

weird thing is, i came across this while listening to Green Day, and i like the anime (never read the manga, though). GD forever!

  35. beavisandbutthead says:

ummmm i think thats the point

  36. Gloria says:

Okay, that’s too obvious to be ignored…

  37. Erin says:

im preeeeeeeeety sure that was on purpose…….

  38. Brandon_ha says:

Beck is packed full of North American musical references and homages. Ryusuke’s guitar Lucile is named after B.B. King’s guitar, Taira’s (the Bassist) stage mannerisms and style of play are based off of Flea from RHCP, Chiba is based on Zach de La Rocha and Koyui holds his guitar like Tom Morrello does. The band members all share a dream involving John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, Jimmie Hendrix and Freddy Mercury.
