I was just thinking there are some similarities between an anime film called “Porco Rosso” and some elements of the sonic series.
The red plane tails uses looks alot like the one from Porco Rosso, Doctor robotnik actually looks alot like Porco Rosso.
If you’ve seen the Sonic movie you have to admit the scene were sonic is relaxing by the shore matches rather close to the scene from Porco Rosso.
The dates make sense as well, Sonic 2 was released in Nov 1992 and Porco Rosso in July 1992. (the Sonic movie came out in 1996.)
This pales in comparison to the DragonBall Z inspirations of corse, eg:
Super Saiyan = Super Sonic
Seven dragon balls = Seven Chaos emeralds
Floating islands in both series.
Ever seen Laputa? Sonic 3 was a tribute to that film… Go check it out.
Master Emerald keep Angel Island afloat = rune keeps Laputa afloat
Loads of the scenery is like one of the levels in SOnic & Knuckles… As are a lot of the flying machines. But Sega admitted it.
They’re both references to a variety of Mythological Japanese figures, Japanese have some pretty neat legends if you ever get the chance to check it out.

I’m the one who submitted it and I don’t like sonic but I love spirited away so I don’t know the difference, I just saw eggman on the sonic and mario Olympic games and thought he looked like spirited away guy. I’m only 13 and to be honest you lot are nerds to actually care about names (eggman is dr robotniks other name) and details like how many arms and what the arms are like. Don’t be nerds.

2 things:
1. It’s Doctor Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik.
Eggman is a nickname he calles himself. He has a sense of humor.
2. This look alike deserves a PRRRROMOTION!
I thought his name was Kintobor, which he reversed into Robotnik after he became “evil” care of the chaos emeralds.
*ding ding ding* WE HAVE A WINNER! You are right he was Dr. Ovi Kintobor. He had an accident in his lab when trying to condense the negative energies in Mobius into the Chaos Emeralds. He turned evil because of a rotten egg he was carrying when he fell into his machine, which caused it to explode. He and the egg became one with him taking the badness of said egg, and becomeing obsessed with them (Death Egg). I know way too nerdy, but I grew up reading Sonic the Comic. (Issue #8 for the backstory BTW)

I am a part-time sonic fan watched the whole sonic x episodes english ver(2 years ago) and the japan ver(1 year ago) + some episodes from the old cartoons and now saw this movie today and i must say that when i saw that guy at first i was like haha 6 arms but then at the part when he gave the tickets to the girl i was like oh snap reminded me of eggman so much he acts same as eggman would in his friendly times.
