      You are misinformed.

Avatar was a composite of 3D CG graphics, 2D CG graphics (matte paintings) and video footage. They were combined mostly in a program called Eyeon Fusion. Eyeon Fusion was also used in Sin City, 300, and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. District 9 used a program called Nuke, which looks to replace Fusion as the industry standard because of its unique keying tools and its 3D tracking ability. Very cool stuff.

Here’s a photo of a practical set in front of a chromakey backdrop.

  17. none of ur buisness says:

Avatar stole that name from the show Avatar and now the people who made the show Avatar couldnt use the name Avatar for the movie. The movie was going to be originaly call “Avatar the Last Airbender” but now they will be sued if they use that name for the movie. But Avatar is still a good movie even though they stole the name.

  21. grumpyoldman says:

I liked Avatar a lot but I cant believe there are people thinking its better than lord of the rings. It was the same old white-man-stealing-land-from-indians story as pocahontas and 100 other movies but wrapped in a shiny blue wrapper. LOTR was the greatest book of all time before it was even a movie series. Its themes, races, magic, etc defined a whole genre of fantasy. Dungeons and Dragons, Warcraft, and so on are all built on the foundation of lord of the rings.
