I remembered hearing a few giggles in the cinema when they showed the scene….I think the gollum came into everyone’s mind during that time…

That was my first thought, too! On closer inspection, I’d have to say it looks like Gollum, as portrayed by Hugo Weaving (which it wasn’t, of course).
