FIRST !
I have a bad feeling that the day you get out of your basement and get a life will never come.
Yeah… Che came first, so I think the fictional character was probably intended to look like him. Not exactly a coincidence.
Yeah, definitely an intentional resemblance… both on the part of the creators of the movie as well as in the movie itself – the character was probably deliberately projecting Che as well.
Undoubtedly True. There’s no question about it really.
UGH. Things like this work with THIS format:
[not famous person/thing] totally looks like [famous person/thing]
When that formula gets twisted backward, it doesn’t make any sense.
This happens ALL THE TIME now. Why do so many people have so much trouble understanding this?!
People are stupid.
Actually, “totally looks like” is a symmetric property. That is, if A totally looks like B, then B totally looks like A. Which one is more famous (famous is a somewhat subjective and unquantifiable metric anyway) does not matter. It is not “is a total rip-off of”, “is inspired by” or such, it just says that two things look alike.
In fact, if you look at the top of the content area, it says “Combine two photos (the well-known and the look-alike) on our Look-Alike Builder.”, which suggest an order contrary to what you espouse.
Perhaps some many people don’t “understand” because you’re the one who is wrong.
No, whatever came second, or is less well known, should “totally look like” the original, or whatever came first.
By your logic, Under Pressure totally sounds like Ice Ice Baby.
(yes, it is an old reference, and it is sounds, not looks, but it works)
Your rebuttal lacks any actual support. Your first sentence is just saying how you think it should be, without any reasons why it should be that way.
As for your second statement, yes, Under Pressure totally sounds like Ice Ice Baby. What does stating this prove? That you understood what I have written? It certainly doesn’t refute anything.
I welcome discussion, but you’ll have to argue your case better.
Can’t beat THAT logic.
c’mon Nash. They are right. Use your common sense. If you have a younger brother and someone say: “you totally look like him” what would you reply? (Common sense:) “No, he totally looks like me! I was born first” and so on…
No, I would not answer that. Calling your viewpoint common sense is a fallacy, much like when people claim “everybody knows” something which they happen to agree with. You claim you are right because you are in the majority, but there’s nothing proving you are in the majority, and being in the majority does not mean you are right anyway.
So if one of your friends says you look like some other person, would you say “No, he actually looks like me, as I was born first.”?
yeah, i bet you loved playing doctor and pretending to remove tumors as well.
Nash, man, you are totally right. Never noticed that before. It does say “the well-known and the look-alike” in that order at the top. And you’re also totally right that in the content provided, it is simply “totally looks like”. It is not “is a ripoff of” or “was an homage to” or “was totally influenced by”. And “espouse”? What a great word. Think I found my TLLBFF.
Nash,
your brain is obviously soooo big…I’m popping a major boner right now……and I’m not even gay
Hey, sometimes even when they’re in the right order they don’t make any sense, though.
In addition to this being an intentional spoof and thus a TLL FAIL, people who say it’s a “symmetric relationship” where order doesn’t matter are WRONG. It should most definitely be newer/less famous on the left, older/famous on the right. If you don’t understand this, then consider the following:
Would you ever see a parent and child and tell the parent they look like their child? Or that “You have your son’s eyes!”
If you saw a potato in the store that looked like Jay Leno, would you send Leno a picture saying “You totally look like this potato!”
If I saw a potato in a store that looked like Jay Leno, I would buy it, and then throw it under a bus.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but if I had a chance to talk to Jay Leno about a potato, I would in fact tell him, “You look like a potato, Jay. A potato with nice eyes and a big chin.”
@ MHarrison:
Does the M stand for Moron?
Nash’s logic is irrefutable (but you can still try).
You know if Gandalf hadn’t made friends with The eagles in ‘The Hobbit’, then Saruman would have kicked your skinny fanny right off that tower at Isengard, maybe you need to shut your yapper, ye old wizard!
I used to think your way, but now I have to disagree. All it says is “totally looks like”. It makes no mention of time line, before/after, etc. Looks like is looks like is looks like. See Nash’s comments below. Couldn’t have said it better.
i agree with Harvey
AfriCat is right – the character was INTENDED to look like Che. Fail.
And in other news, the impersonators in Vegas TLL Elvis Presley and Optimus Prime TLL a truck.
Fail.
I thought guevara looks like an extra from the older “Planet of the Apes” movies.
This just in: this potato I carved to resemble a duck, totally looks like a duck! WOW! I WIN!
Nice. I can’t carve things to save my life. Except maybe Roast Beast when I’m in Whoville
Interesting!
Really? You must be joking.
I am not certain where you’re getting your info, but great topic. I must spend some time learning much more or working out more. Thanks for excellent information I used to be looking for this information for my mission.
Ow! My sensibilities are sprained!
