John C. Calhoun was quite the political maverick (Sarah’s got some mighty big shoes to fill). He served as Vice-President under John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson (badass!), was Secretary of State briefly under John Tyler, and was the Secretary of War (it’s serious business) under James Monroe. Not to mention, he was a Senator and a Representative for the state of South Carolina (smiling faces, beautiful places). I’d call that being a maverick and possessing all-around-political-awesomesauce. Here’s to you John!
